Having experienced domestic abuse for several years as a young woman, I now recognise the fatigue that caused me to sleep for long periods throughout the day just so that I could go about my daily activities. I started to feel pain in my stomach on a regular basis and was distraught when I was diagnosed with IBS at the age of 23 as honestly, I really didn’t know what it was - I just knew that I felt unhappy and stressed coupled with bouts of panic attacks and hysteria.
After surviving through this period of my life, I decided that I would like to provide support to others in the same situation. I completed my 1st degree in Person Centred Counselling and Fieldwork Supervision. I went on to work within a Women’s Aid Charity as a Counselling Co-ordinator for Student Counsellors, alongside of managing the Helpline Desk for domestic abuse support.
I was fascinated by the processes that lead to people tolerating domestic abuse and therefore went on to study Mind Mediation working with sub conscious mind. I followed this by studying NLP, Wellbeing Coaching, Trauma Incident Reduction and Specialist Training in Chronic Exhaustive Conditions.
This led me to create a Non -Profit Organisation called Standing Tall and developing a 12-session workshop called ‘Picking up the Pieces and Moving On’. It is aimed for women who have lived through domestic abuse and want to find who they are so that they can live a fulfilled and happy life. The link for me is paramount as I found working with women who have lived through domestic abuse have various types of chronic exhaustive conditions. I am fortunate to also work together with another Non-Profit organisation called Fatigue Free Futures to enable clients to combat these conditions.
I have a level 3 PTLLS qualification in adult teaching and train within my Beauty and Aesthetics Training Academy. I have appeared on Channel 4 as a Skin Camouflage Practitioner and the academy has won an award for the best beauty and aesthetic training provider in the East Midlands. We are very proud to say that we have been able to help some women from the workshop to attain skills so that they can work within the beauty industry.
I have delivered talks to BBC Radio Sheffield and the Sheffield Enterprise convention. I have recently been presented with an award for Mental Wellbeing Support Director of the Year (UK) under the Influential Businesswoman Awards 2022 which has spurred me on to complete my ambition of creating a Wellbeing Centre for a local community which is in its early stages.
